Seminar on « Freedom of association and participation. The role of civil society in the democratic transition »
Dates: July 8th, 9th and 10th, 2011
Venue: Gammarth, Tunis (Hôtel Tulip Inn Phebus)
Objectives: To reflect on the role of civil society in the democratic transition processes, starting from the situation of freedom association in the Region.
Seminar’s Works Organisation: After the works’ opening session, four Round Tables, followed by a general discussion, have tackled the following themes: « Freedom of association and of expression», « Contents, means and forms of civil society participation to the democratic transition», « The needs of civil society to promote the democratic transition and the different forms of Euromed support to the democratic processes». Each of these themes was the object of discussion within the work groups.
Before the closing session, a general discussion was dedicated to the situation in Syria and Libya.
Participants: 88 persons coming from civil society associations of : Algeria, Egypt, France, Italy, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco, Occupied Palestinian Territories, Spain, Syria, Tunisia.
